Why Our Candles Are So Great!

In case you hadn't noticed, the candle business is booming. On any given day you can find hundreds of candles to choose from, and all at hundreds of different prices. Which makes for a pretty confusing market. With many different candles out there, and all of them looking very similar, how can you really tell if one candle is better than another?

We've put together this little guide to tell you why we think Candle Witch candles are the best candles in the world. Have a seat, and take a look. We'd love to hear what you think.

They're hand made.

The words "Made By Hand" used to mean something in this country, and they still do to us. Each and every Candle Witch candle in slowly handmade in a process that takes 4-7 hours or more (see our How Our Candles Are Made page for more info). At every step of the way they are carefully inspected for flaws or problems. At the first sign of a flaw, they are thrown out and we start over with a whole new candle. We don't even remelt the old wax because it will slightly diminish the scent quality. Not a drop of wax leaves our shop until it has passed our stringent standards the first time around.

How serious are we about this? Teri once made 5 candles in a row, all of them more than "good enough" by any one else's standards, but not good enough for her's. She finally got a perfect candle on the sixth one, and that's the one we sent. The way the candle looked, the way the candle smelled, the way the wax melted; all were not quite "good enough" for her, so we kept working until we got it right.

That's how serious we are about making candles. And that's the kind of quality you can expect from Candle Witch.

They're made with the best available products.

All of our candles are made from 100% pure paraffin wax. Unlike other manufacturers, we do not whip air into the wax, nor do we add Crisco or other fillers. The scents and dyes that we use are the freshest available. We constantly test each scent for freshness and quality among several manufacturers; choosing only the one that smells the best. We even mark down the purchase date on each bottle of scent to ensure that no scent is used after 6 months.

This is the only way we know how to ensure that the candle you purchase is the very best and freshest possible. Does it make a difference? Buy one and find out for yourself.

They last longer.

We not only make candles at Candle Witch, we also test them. Our extensive testing facilities (our spare bedroom, and a very sensitive scale) allow us to compare our candles against many other brands. We carefully weight each candle, burn it for a set period of time, and then weight it again. Repeating this process until there's no wax left to burn. We then add up the results and compare. What we've found may startle you.

Our candles burn two to three times longer than regular "store bought" candles. That's right 2-3 times longer.

Why? Well for starters it's because "store bought" candles are manufactured by machine not by hand. Often machine made candles have small bubbles of air whipped into the wax in an effort to reduce the amount of wax needed, and to reduce the amount of shrinkage that happens when the hot wax cools. And this works pretty well to. The candle cools faster, uses less wax, and best of all, looks just like a regular candle. Unfortunately it just doesn't burn as long.

How can you tell if you've got air whipped into your candle? Pick it up and hold it in your hand. Candle Witch candles are heavy, they feel very dense in your hand. That's because they're made with solid wax. Not an air bubble in sight.

To help you see the quality of each Candle Witch candle we've included a burning time chart on each page that has a candle on it. (see below) That way you'll have a good idea how long your Candle Witch candle should burn.
